Knitters were first believed to have begun their craft in the first few centuries AD. I wanted to set out some basic knitting instructions as a refresher so here it is.
A baby blanket is the perfect place to practice more complex pattern stitches. More resilient yarns are more forgiving of irregularities in tension; highly twisted yarns are sometimes difficult to knit, whereas untwisting yarns can lead to split stitches, in which not all of the yarn is knitted into a stitch. Ornamental pieces may also be knitted separately and then attached using applique.
The color-scheme of a yarn is sometimes called its colorway. In weaving, the threads are always straight, running parallel either lengthwise (warp threads) or crosswise (weft threads). Flat knitting, on the other hand, is used, in its most basic form, to make flat, rectangular pieces of cloth.
You'll be amazed at how much faster the second, third, and fourth version of the same pattern can be. Be sure to try using other available resources, such as local craft and hobby stores.
